What is Pack the Back?


A charitable initiative dedicated to supporting underprivileged children in our community during the back-to-school season. Our mission is to provide free haircuts, backpacks, and school supplies to ensure these children have the resources they need to thrive academically.


In the Tri-County Area, the average cost of school supplies per student ranges from $55 to over $95 depending on their grade level. Unfortunately, many children who attend our event lack the means to acquire these necessary supplies. That's where Pack the Back steps in. We aim to serve as a vital resource, helping children feel confident and prepared as they return to school.


Our goal for this event is to support up to 1,500 children, providing them with school supplies and backpacks at an average cost of $65 per student. To achieve this, we welcome the participation of Title Sponsors, Media Partners, product Donations, and Volunteer Groups. Your support will play a crucial role in ensuring the success of this event.


In addition to our primary mission, the event will also feature a family-friendly children's fair, open to the general public. This fair aims to create a fun and engaging atmosphere where families can come together to enjoy various activities.


Join us in making a difference in the lives of these children. Together, we can empower them to start the school year on the right foot and pave the way for their academic success.

For many children, it is the first time in their life that they can have a positive interaction with local city offices and business owners. The Teachers’ Lounge: $25,000

We are looking to raise the above amount. This is our newest addition to the Pack the Back event. It’s a way for us to shower at least 300 teachers or more from all counties. We want our teachers to feel appreciated as they embark on a new school year. We would like this new addition to give the teachers support with haircuts, massages, mani/pedi’s, gift cards, lunch, and Amazon Gift card for supplies. 

You can help with this with your monetary gifts of any value or non-monetary amounts in lieu of gifts cards or vouchers to shower the teachers with. 

Donating to the Teachers’ lounge shows the real heart of this event and that these special individuals deserve our support.

When IS Pack The Back?

Pack the Back will be held Saturday, August 12, 2023, at the North Charleston Coliseum (Performing Arts Building 11 am-3 pm.

Do I need A Ticket?

Yes, to receive a backpack you will need to register at the Eventbrite link posted on this page. This ensures safety on the grounds for the day. Only two tickets per email are allowed. Keep in mind we are serving ALL counties in the tri-county area that day. Without a ticket, you will not be able to receive a backpack. You do not need a ticket to patronize the vendors.

Will There Be Food & Drinks?

Yes! There will be a few food trucks onsite that day selling tasty meals and treats.

Should I bring Money?

It is not required for a backpack, it’s free. However, there are various vendors planned to attend that day with goodies for kids. Feel free to patronize them at the event.

Can I purchase alcohol during the event or bring my own?

Pack the Back is a family-filled event and alcohol is not allowed onsite during the event.

What If It Rains?

Pack the Back is rain or shine. It will be hot and there will be a cooling station but please bring water in the event there are long lines.
